Mark Ellis taught mathematics in grades 6-12 in northern California public schools for six years, becoming a National Board Certified Teacher in 1999. Mark is an author of Reimagining the Mathematics Classroom: Creating and Sustaining Productive Learning Environments from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, He served on NCTM's Board of Directors from 2009-2012 and helped to produce the landmark publication, Principles to Actions: Ensuring Mathematical Success for All. His work is focused on strategies for mathematics instruction that make meaningful learning accessible to diverse groups of students. Throughout his teaching career, Mark has been driven by a desire to create opportunities for all students to learn important mathematics concepts and skills, particularly those from groups historically underserved by traditional practices of schooling. Mark will be leading a session focused on productive learning environments for K-6 grade teachers of mathematics and facilitating a workshop focused on student engagement and equity in mathematics lessons for teachers of grades 6-12.
